How do you choose your newborn photographer – St Pete Newborn Photographer

You are about to enter the next chapter of your life…becoming parents. You know you want newborn photos, maybe even maternity photos but have no clue where to begin in the search so you turn to social media.

There are groups galore for your city so you post in there. Next thing you know, you have 234756 comments recommending photographers but have no clue where to begin. Hopefully this helps you in your journey in finding the right photographer for your newborn.

Finding a photographer

Not going to lie, it’s probably overwhelming. This is your newborn and you want to make sure that you trust who is handling them. It’s great to ask social media but when asking for a photographer on social media, you will get response from anyone and everyone that is a “photographer”. Just because they are a photographer does not mean they are a newborn photographer. Remember that.

What type of style do you want?

When it comes to your newborn session, do you want a posed session or more comfortable lifestyle. Most portrait photographers are comfortable enough to do a newborn session in your home. This is centered more around you and your newborn, in their nursery or just around your house. These are more comfortable and not dependent on your newborn sleeping.

Posed sessions can last 2-4 hours, depending on your newborn. Since we like to photograph your session in the first 2 weeks of life, this is the prime time for the posed photos. Posing your newborn takes an experienced, patient photographer so that no harm comes to your newborn.

Check our their portfolio/website

When looking at a photographers website, be sure they have newborns on their website and this is something they specialize in. Do the photos on their website interest you in what you are looking for in a session? Be sure to ask the photographer any questions you might have. Don’t be afraid to! This is your newborn we’re talking about.

Pricing

While budget will probably be a huge factor when it comes to your newborn session, be sure that there are no hidden costs. Some photographers charge just a session fee and then any products/digitals are available for purchase after the session. While some photographers offer digital images with their session fees and those might be a little higher due to the fact you get all of your final/edited images. Keep that in mind.

The best time to schedule your newborn session is while you are still pregnant. Most photographers require a deposit and this may help with the cost since it will be split into 2 payments. Also, don’t hesitate to ask your photographer if they take payments. Some will, especially if you are doing a maternity and newborn session.

Also keep in mind the type of session you are doing. Lifestyle sessions may be a little less than a studio/posed session due to time. Posed sessions generally last from 2-4 hours and are more baby led than a lifestyle session.

Finding the Perfect Newborn Photographer

Don’t choose the first photographer you run across on Google or on your social media post. Be sure to research them, ask friends/family and make sure they are the right fit for you and your newborn.
